This project, coordinated by the Medical Economics and Research Centre is
made up of five 'work packages' (WP). These are being carried out by a multi-disciplinary team of highly qualified experts in Geriatrics, Gerontology and Social medicine.

Work Package 1
|
|
|
|
WP1.1, which is being carried out by a team from the Medical Research Council (UK), involves a
systematic review of the literature to assess both the extent of exclusion of older people from clinical trials and what might be done to remedy this situation.

Work Package 2
|
|
|
|
WP1.2, which is being carried out by the Institute of Gerontology and Geriatrics at Perugia University,
Italy, is reviewing ongoing clinical trials to assess the exclusion of older people, and thus give a more current picture.

Work Package 2 and 3
|
|
|
|
WP2 and WP 3, which will based be on the findings of WP1, will investigate why the elderly are under
represented in clinical trials and what can be done to improve their participation. WP2 will research the views of health professionals and ethicists using structured questionnaires. WP3 will explore the
perceptions of older patients and carers using a focus group methodology.

This will be carried out, with guidance from the Keele Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Ageing
(KIRCA), UK in 9 countries, Italy, UK, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Israel and the Czech Republic

Work Package 4
|
|
|
|
WP4 will take the recommendations from WP2 and WP3 and will be used to develop a charter for the rights
of older people in clinical trials the elderly in clinical trials.
|
|
|
Work Package 5
|
|
|
|
WP5 will disseminate and implement the findings of PREDICT through publications for health professionals
and lay people, meetings, the internet and through the media. This will culminate in a public launch of the Charter, which will be made available in all the native languages of the participating
countries.
